Audience Syncs enable you to seamlessly connect your Spectacle audiences with ad networks, unlocking powerful capabilities for campaign optimization and precise targeting.

Overview

Audience Syncs automatically synchronize your custom audiences from Spectacle to your connected ad networks. This feature enables two powerful use cases:

  1. Conversion Optimization - Send audience membership events as micro-conversions to help ad networks optimize your campaigns
  2. Audience Targeting - Create customer match lists for precise targeting or exclusion in your ad campaigns

Understanding Sync Types

Conversion Syncs (CAPI)

Conversion syncs use the ad network's Conversion API to send audience membership events as conversions. This helps the ad network's algorithm better understand your ideal customers and optimize campaign delivery.

Key characteristics:

  • One-way sync (additions only)
  • Excludes existing audience members when first created
  • Can include conversion values for revenue optimization
  • Supports enhanced matching with click IDs and other Contact traits for better attribution

When to use:

  • Optimizing campaigns for specific customer segments
  • Training ad algorithms on high-value customer behaviors
  • Improving conversion tracking beyond standard website events

List Syncs

List syncs create customer match lists in your ad network that stay synchronized with your Spectacle audience.

Key characteristics:

  • Two-way sync (additions and removals)
  • Includes all audience members when first created
  • Updates automatically as your audience changes
  • Perfect for targeting or exclusion campaigns

When to use:

  • Retargeting existing customers
  • Excluding current customers from acquisition campaigns
  • Creating lookalike audiences based on your best customers
  • Building custom segments for specific campaign strategies

Requirements

Before creating audience syncs, ensure you have:

  1. A custom contact audience - Create an audience in Spectacle based on your desired criteria
  2. A connected ad network - Currently supporting Google Ads (more networks coming soon)
  3. Proper permissions - Admin or standard access to your ad network account
  4. Privacy compliance - Ensure you have proper consent for data sharing per your ad network's policies

Setting Up Audience Syncs

Step 1: Create Your Audience

Navigate to the Audiences page and create a custom audience based on contacts. Define your criteria using attributes like:

  • Behavioral data (page views, events, conversions)
  • Firmographic data (company size, industry)
  • Engagement events (email opens, form submissions)
  • Custom properties from your CRM

Step 2: Create the Sync

  1. Go to Audiences → Syncs
  2. Click "New sync"
  3. Choose your sync type (Conversion or List) and ad network accoutn
  4. Configure data sharing options:
    • For Conversion Syncs: Select which identifiers to share (email, phone, click IDs)
    • For List Syncs: Choose contact properties to include for matching
  5. Review and confirm your settings

Step 3: Monitor Sync Status

Track your sync performance from the Audience Syncs page:

  • For List Syncs: View counts of pending, synced, and failed contacts
  • For Conversion Syncs: Monitor conversion event statistics
  • Check match rates reported by the ad network

For Conversion Syncs

For List Syncs
