Overview

Spectacle connects to OpenAI Ads in about 5 minutes and attributes every Crm contact, deal, and payment to the campaign, ad group, and ad that ran inside ChatGPT. OpenAI Ads Manager reports impressions, clicks, and spend. Spectacle records the whole journey behind each of those clicks, from the ad in ChatGPT to the deal that closes weeks later, and joins your OpenAI spend to the pipeline it produced.

At a glance

The gap in OpenAI Ads Manager's own reporting

Ads inside ChatGPT are new, and the reporting around them is thinner than around a channel that has had a decade to mature. OpenAI Ads Manager shows impressions, clicks, and spend. There is no keyword level, no impression share, no quality score, and no auction data, and nothing in it can tell you whether a click became a Crm contact, a qualified deal, or a paying account.

Analytics tools are no better placed. A visit arriving from ChatGPT lands in the same bucket whether the person clicked an ad or followed an organic answer, so paid and organic ChatGPT traffic are counted together and neither is priced. For a channel most teams are still deciding whether to fund, that is exactly the number that is missing.

Spectacle sits underneath: a first-party snippet on your site, your ads configured for tracking automatically, spend imported hourly, and every downstream milestone from your Crm or payment provider on the same timeline as the ChatGPT click. Both kinds of ChatGPT traffic appear under the source chatgpt, separated by whether the visit was paid.

What syncs

  • Tracking configuration: Written into each ad's destination url automatically, and re-checked every 30 minutes so newly created ads are covered. Url parameters you already use are kept, and yours win on a conflict
  • Campaign, ad group and ad: Every visit resolves to a campaign, ad group, and individual ad, so creative and targeting can be compared on revenue rather than on clicks
  • Spend: Imported per ad per day in your ad account's currency, hourly, backfilled from the first tracked click
  • Impressions and clicks: OpenAI's own numbers imported next to Spectacle's attributed numbers, so the two can be compared
  • Conversions: Won deals and transactions sent back to OpenAI so delivery optimises against them, within OpenAI's 7-day window
  • Audiences: A Spectacle contact audience kept in step with an OpenAI custom audience, for targeting above 25,000 matched people and for exclusion below it

The connection steps, the manual parameter format, and the audience limits live in the OpenAI Ads docs. This page summarizes; Docs is the source of truth.

What you get

  • Paid ChatGPT separated from organic ChatGPT. The ad click and the answer-driven visit stop being one undifferentiated bucket, so the paid half can be priced against the pipeline it produced.
  • A verdict on the channel within one journey window. Set the window to your sales cycle, run OpenAI Ads for that long, and read pipeline and revenue per campaign against spend. Keep it or kill it on a number rather than a hunch.
  • Cost per Crm contact and per deal, down to the ad. OpenAI spend joined to outcomes from HubSpot, Salesforce, Pipedrive, Odoo, Monday.com, Zoho Crm, or Stripe, at campaign, ad group, and ad level.
  • Credit for the click that started it. A ChatGPT click on day 1 gets credit for the deal on day 47 in first-touch, linear, and U-shaped models, long after OpenAI's own 7-day conversion window has closed.
  • Pipeline sent back to OpenAI. Won deals and transactions returned as conversions, and matched audiences kept in step, so delivery optimises for revenue instead of for clicks.

How Spectacle and OpenAI Ads work together

  1. Issue an Api key. In OpenAI Ads Manager, open the Settings tab and issue an Api key. The key belongs to one ad account, so use the key for the account you want to import.
  2. Connect. Settings → Integrations → OpenAI Ads → Connect, from your Spectacle workspace, and paste the key in. Nothing else to configure.
  3. Journeys fill in. Spectacle writes tracking into each ad's destination url and re-checks every 30 minutes, imports spend from the first tracked click, and attributes Crm and payment events back to the campaign, ad group, and ad. Two kinds of ad cannot be configured for you — product feed ads, whose url comes from the feed, and ads already near OpenAI's 2048-character url limit. Spectacle reports those to you with the parameters to paste, rather than failing quietly.

Step by step, including the manual parameter format: OpenAI Ads docs.

See the integration in practice

OpenAI Ads clicks and organic ChatGPT visits arrive under the same source, chatgpt. Left as one bucket, a rising ChatGPT number is unreadable: it could be the ad account working, or it could be the brand being recommended more often, and those two call for opposite decisions. Spectacle splits them on whether the visit was paid, then puts your OpenAI spend against each campaign, ad group, and ad. The paid half gets a cost per Crm contact and per deal that sits next to every other channel; the organic half stays visible as the thing your content is earning.
